UCD up 8 places in QS World University Rankings

UCD has moved up eight places to 185 in the (opens in a new window)QS World University Rankings 2020 published today (19 June 2019).

QS uses six criteria to measure performance: academic survey of reputation, employer survey of reputation, student faculty ratio, proportion of international faculty, citations per faculty, proportion of international students.

This year, the criteria influencing the improvement in the UCD ranking were the academic survey, the student faculty ratio and the international faculty.  

"We have specifically focused on restoring our student faculty ratio, which collapsed as a result of austerity measures.  We are currently at 20.9 and our target is to reach the OECD average of 16. We are actively recruiting academics in disciplines of strength," said the President of UCD, Professor Andrew Deeks.

"The increase in the number of international faculty reflects one of our strategic goals as Ireland's Global University to expose our students to wider influences and help prepare them to become global citizens."

The number of universities ranked by QS is 1,000.  UCD is ranked 80 in Europe.
