Two charities will share a windfall worth tens of thousands of euro after UCD’s Agricultural Science Society (AgSoc) raised €62,000 with its annual fundraising efforts.
The large sum was raised through a range fund-raising events organised by the society's committee and auditor Ciara Byers.
“Huge thanks to all our sponsors throughout the year, committee members for their time and everyone else who donated in any way possible,” AgSoc said, writing to thank all those who donated their time and money over the 2022/2023 academic year.
Two cheques totalling €31,000 each were presented to representatives from Tiggy’s Trust and Multiple Sclerosis Ireland by AgSoc members outside the UCD Agriculture and Food Science Centre.

Receiving the generous donation on World MS Day, MS Ireland is the national organisation providing information, vital services and support to the MS community throughout Ireland.
They provide a wide range of specialised services and resources on a national, regional and local level, as well as providing the only national respite and therapy centre for people with MS in Ireland.
The Tiggy’s Trust is a foundation that was set up in memory of Tiggy Hancock, a young talented rider who passed away at 15 years of age.
The charity was set up as a way of honouring Tiggy’s memory by spreading the kindness, generosity and inclusivity that was an integral part of her personality. The foundation supports youth focused charities, as well as runs nurturing and sportsmanship programmes for equestrian coaches and riders.
First established in 1923, UCD AgSoc is one of the largest societies at University College Dublin and has a long history of donating substantial sums to worthy causes.
Since 2017, its members have helped raise over €300,000 for charities and good causes.
