UCD rowers retain senior cups at 2024 Colours Boat Races

The senior cups at the 2024 Colours Boat Races have again been won by the Ladies and Mens rowers at University College Dublin.
Repeating their 2023 triumph, the UCD Ladies Boat Club senior crew successfully defended the Corcoran Cup from race rivals the Trinity Ladies Rowing.
The Corcoran Cup was introduced in 1980 as a Women’s Senior IV race between the Ladies’ Boat Clubs of Trinity and UCD.
This latest win means that the UCD Ladies are three for three in the senior race.
The winning Corcoran Cup UCD crew were made up:

- 2: Jessica Farrell
- 3: Dervila O’Brien
- 4: Lauryn Roche
- 5: Nell Allison
- 6: Sarah Daly (Capt.)
- 7: Alison Daly
- Stroke: Tara Phelan

In the men’s senior race, the UCD’s mens crew also scored a trio, retaining the Gannon Cup for a third year in a row against the Dublin University Boat Club.
The Gannon Cup has been competed for annually since 1947 between the Men’s VIIIs from Trinity and UCD.

The Novice men and women competed for the Dan Quinn Shield and the Sally Moorhead Trophy respectively, with the UCD women’s novice winning the Sally Moorhead Trophy - introduced in 2005 for the fastest Novice Women’s VIII crew.

The Colours are based on the famous Boat Race between Oxford and Cambridge, and take place across two kilometres on the lower Liffey between O’Connell Bridge to James’ Gate.
