UCD sports technology spin-out (opens in a new window)Output Sports has announced details of its expansion into the US market.
The company, co-founded in 2018 by Dr Martin O'Reilly, Dr Darragh Whelan, Julian Eberle and (opens in a new window)Professor Brian Caulfield as a spin-out from the UCD School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science and the (opens in a new window)Insight SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics, is seeking to collaborate with the Boston Red Sox baseball team as part of its investment in the State of Massachusetts.
Output Sports recently established a new office in Boston and co-founder and CEO, Dr Martin O'Reilly has also relocated there to further build its US growth team which includes 5 new hires to date.
Former Leinster and Ireland rugby player Adam Byrne, a graduate from the UCD School of Biomedical Engineering, was earlier this year appointed as Output Sports’ Commercial Manager for North America.
Its products enable strength and conditioning coaches, sport scientists and rehab professionals, to fully understand and optimise their athletes’ performance using a single wearable sensor system.
The company’s technology is currently used by sports practitioners across 30+ countries, including in the USA and in multiple sports.
In late 2022 Output Sports launched a V2 product which has led to significant US growth with over 300 new clients onboarded, including flagship clients in the NFL, WNSL, MLB, NHL, WNBA and NBA.
“Since the launch of our V2 product we have seen tremendous growth in the USA with product usage across elite sport, education settings and gyms. It is an incredibly exciting time for us at Output as we double down on the US opportunity,” said Dr Martin O’Reilly, CEO.
News of the company’s increased expansion into the US market came following a meeting with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD during a visit to Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team.
The Taoiseach is involved in a programme of events in Boston with Irish companies scaling in the US, including Output Sports, in advance of his traditional St Patrick’s Day meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House in Washington DC.
Earlier this week, leading the US delegation, the Taoiseach and Leo Clancy announced Enterprise Ireland’s St. Patrick’s Day programme of over 50 overseas business events, marking the enormous impact of Irish companies across the globe.
“We are really proud that Irish companies are proving successful at home and abroad thanks to their focus on innovation. Ireland’s strong industrial base, and our world-class research and development ecosystem, is helping many Irish companies to grow at a rapid pace in international markets. Ireland is a very open economy, with huge exports relative to our size,” said Taoiseach Varadkar.
“We have some extraordinary Irish companies who are the best at what they do globally. This St Patrick’s Day programme for 2024 is a great platform to showcase Irish companies that are scaling rapidly through world-class innovation.”
