A (opens in a new window)charity providing support to those affected by a stillbirth or neonatal death have been gifted almost €30,000 by the (opens in a new window)UCD Medical Society.
The money was raised as part of this year's Med Week – the society's annual charity fundraising event that sees students throughout the UCD School of Medicine and UCD get involved in a range of fund-raising events.
The large sum was donated to (opens in a new window)Féileacáin, the stillbirth and neonatal death association of Ireland, which provides support for those bereaved by the loss of a fetus during pregnancy or a baby around the time of birth.
“We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have raised a grand total of €29,396.36 for Féileacáin during Med Week 2022,” the UCD Medical Society said, writing to thank all those who donated their time and money.
“We’re so thankful for everybody who donated and for those who got involved... All of your contributions will go to provide much needed support to bereaved families affected by the loss of a baby.”
Féileacáin was formed in 2009 by a group of bereaved parents to offer support to anyone affected by a stillbirth or neonatal death.
The organisation has grown to become the national charity supporting those affected by perinatal loss, and aims to provide each Maternity Unit and Children’s Hospital in Ireland with its services.
Since 2017, Med Week has helped raise almost €180,000 for a number of charities, including (opens in a new window)Aoibhneas, (opens in a new window)Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust, (opens in a new window)BUMBLEance, (opens in a new window)Barretstown, and (opens in a new window)Debra Ireland.
