UCD PhD Student, Shannon Byrne awarded Anglo-Irish Bank Scholarship
Shannon Byrne, a PhD student in UCD School of English and Drama has been awarded an Anglo-Irish Bank Scholarship

In 2003, after completing undergraduate studies at Wellesley College
and the University of Connecticut in the United States, Shannon came to
UCD to begin her MA in Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama. In 2004,
having graduated with first class honours, she began her MA in 20th
century Irish History in UCD School of History and Archives under the
supervision of Dr. Lindsey Earner-Byrne. She completed this thesis
titled "Conflict in Consensus: Irish Suffragists and Nationalists, 1908-
1918" before starting on her PhD in English. The title of her current
PhD thesis is "The Spirit of the Nation: The Role of Music in the Plays
of Sean O'Casey and Brian Friel" - under the supervision of Brian
Donnelly, this study will allow her to explore her interests in Irish
literature and drama, Irish history and music.
