UCD senior footballers reached the semi-final of the Leinster club championship with a hard-fought victory over Meath champions Wolfe Tones on 12 Nov 2006. Despite only leading by two points at half-time, having played with a strong breeze, UCD upped their performance after half-time to outscore the Meathmen in the second half also. The crucial score was Shane Lennon's goal, just two minutes after the break. UCD's superior passing skill and combination play was the main difference between the sides. Former Meath great Tommy Dowd made a second half substitute appearance for Wolfe Tones but made no impact on an outstanding UCD defence who restricted their opponents to the low total of five points from play. Great credit, nonetheless, is due to Wolfe Tones who were playing junior football only four years ago. UCD now play Offaly champions Rhode in the Leinster semi-final at Parnell Park next Sunday afternoon. All are encouraged to come along and support a true team of champions.
