Dorothy being presented with the prize by Professor Diarmuid O'Shea, President Irish Gerontological Society.
The President's prize at the 2018 Irish Gerontological Society was won for research carried out by two of the recent graduates from the MSc in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics programme, Cillian O'Shea and Niamh O'Shaughnessy, into body mass trends amongst residents in HSE residential care sites in CHO-8 (Midlands). The research was carried out under the direction of Dorothy Loane, Clinical Specialist Dietitian, CHO-8 and Dr Caoileann Murphy, School of Public Health, Physiotherapy and Sports Science, UCD.
The judges were very impressed by the novel nature of the work and the practical plans to progress the work on the ground. Cillian is currently working as a dietitian in the Mater Hospital and Niamh as a dietitian in the Children's University Hospital, Temple Street.
