Networks of Excellence Overview

Project Management Grants

Where critical mass was identified, awards for project managers were made available to enable strategic planning and greater integration, the outputs of which helped from the basis for major grant applications. This included hosting of regular exchange meetings to spark ideas for integrated research and foster new collaborations across biomedical and clinical domains, as well as the medical humanities and social sciences.

3 Project Managers were funded: two Project Managers in the Personalised & Translational Medicine theme, and one Project Manager in the One Health theme.

Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) and Public Engagement (PE) Awards

A formalised approach to Public and Patient Involvement is a relatively new concept and required cultural change in the reearch community. The University did not have a mechanism to support education and awareness in PPI; therefore, awards were made available to develop PPI activities across UCD.

Travel Grants

To effectively seed new collaborations and nurture pre-existing ones with international colleagues and other research teams, short-term travel grants and visiting fellowships were made available to visit collaborators, in particular from other Wellcome funded institutions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this was not an active grant in the end.
