This March, representatives from the School of Agriculture and Food Science were delighted to travel to China to meet with colleagues and friends to present to our partner colleges in China and look to build further and future relationships in both taught programmes and research areas.
The trip coincided with St. Patrick's Day ☘ and colleagues were warmly welcomed to a wonderful reception in the Irish Embassy in Beijing where they had the opportunity to meet the Irish Ambassador to China, (opens in a new window)Ann Derwin, Minister for Finance (opens in a new window)Michael McGrath TD and students of our BAgrSc Food Business with Chinese Studies.
The trip began in Guangzhou Dublin International College of Life Sciences & Technology (GDIC) where (opens in a new window)University College Dublin staff met with SCAU ((opens in a new window)South China Agricultural University) programme directors and colleagues on the curricula of our 3 programmes; BSc Biological Science, BSc Horticulture and BSc Food Quality & Safety and the establishment of research collaborations between academics at UCD and SCAU.
The schedule was prepared by our colleague, GDIC Deputy Provost Associate Professor (opens in a new window)Chenguang (Franci) Li and we were warmly welcomed by hosts GDIC Principal, Associate Professor (opens in a new window)Lixin Feng and GDIC Vice Principal for Teaching, Professor Hao Gang.
We were joined by Professor (opens in a new window)Evelyn Doyle, Head of UCD School of Biology and Environmental Science and Associate Professor (opens in a new window)Kieran Meade met with colleagues in the College of Animal Science and our Animal Science 2+2 students.
The UCD visit moved to the (opens in a new window)Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences where they visited the Institute of Animal Science and the Institute of Food Science & Technology. The hosts were Professor Dengpan Bu and Professor Ma Lu at IAS and Professor (opens in a new window)Dequan Zhang and Professor Li Xin at IFST.
We were delighted to meet PhD students on the joint UCD- CAAS Phd Programme. UCD’s Professor (opens in a new window)James Lyng and Associate Professor Kieran Meade presented to staff and students at IFST and IAS respectively.
Finally UCD visited (opens in a new window)Qingdao Agricultural University to take part in a Tri-University (UCD, (opens in a new window)The University of Georgia (US) and QAU) Symposium on Farm Animal Food Production and Quality hosted by the College of Animal Science QAU.
