UCD welcomes New Zealand Ambassador to Ireland, Mr Trevor Mallard

Colleagues at UCD Lyons Farm and the UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science welcomed New Zealand Ambassador to Ireland, Mr (opens in a new window)Trevor Mallard and New Zealand’s Special Agricultural Trade Envoy (opens in a new window)Hamish Marr to share learnings and discuss opportunities for collaboration.
Hamish Marr is a fifth-generation Methven farmer and former (opens in a new window)Nuffield New Zealand scholar and in this role he will work alongside Mr. Trevor Mallard and Government to support key objectives and advocate for the New Zealand farmers and growers off-shore.
There are historically strong trade and cultural ties between our two countries, with over €168M Irish exports to New Zealand, primarily in pharmaceuticals, tech and agricultural machinery.
In January three research projects aimed at developing new technologies to reduce and account for agricultural greenhouse gas emissions are received funding of €5.2 million as part of the Ireland-New Zealand Joint Research Initiative (JRI).
The projects were announced by the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine at the time, Charlie McConalogue TD, and Minister of State with special responsibility for Research and Innovation, Martin Heydon TD, together with the New Zealand Minister for Agriculture, Todd McClay MP.
