 UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science awarded over €3 million euro for research

The UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science was recently awarded in excess of €3.1 million euro in funding from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine across 13 research projects. The awards were part of a government investment of €20 million to research and innovation in the agri-food industry.

Professor John O’Doherty, UCD School of Agriculture and Food received the largest award and will lead a project on “Nutritional and Management strategies to reduce antibiotic resistance on Irish pig farms”.  This collaborative project will use a multidisciplinary research approach to develop solutions to prevent and manage multifactorial enteric diseases in pigs as a means of reducing the need for antibiotic use.

Staff from the school of Agriculture and Food Science will lead eight of the thirty-eight projects awarded and will collaborate on a further seven projects across the three main topics: Environment & Climate Smart Approaches to Agri-Food Systems; Rural Growth, Digitalisation & the Bioeconomy and Food.  

The UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science received €53million in research income in the last 5 years and is ranked 19th Globally & 5th in Europe for the study of Agricultural Science.
