In line with the HEA National Plan for Equity of Access to Higher Education 2015-2019 and UCD’s (2015-2020) strategy, Access and Lifelong Learning’s approach to engage and increase participation in higher education includes developing collaborative ‘regional and community partnerships’ with a particular focus on mentoring’ (HEA, 2015). ALL continues to build and sustain relationships with students and their families, community leaders and stakeholders gaining their input to provide tailored activities to learn more about life in college and flexible entry routes.
UCD works with underrepresented groups including:
- People with disabilities
- Students who attend DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) band schools
- Individuals from low-income households or a community with low progression to further or higher education
- First-time mature students
- Part-time and flexible learners
- Individuals who have completed QQI-FET (FETAC) & PLC courses
- Lone parents
- Irish Travellers
- Ethnic minorities
- Refugees and asylum seekers
- Ex-offenders
