Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2024 - NaviLens Launch!
Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2024: Introducing NaviLens!
Join the UCD Access & Lifelong Learning team for a coffee morning as we celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day 2024 and launch the new accessible signage and information tool: NaviLens. The launch will take place at 11am on Thursday 16th May in the UCD Access & Lifelong Learning Centre.
NaviLens and NaviLens Go are free apps that employ colourful QR code technology to support way-finding and information sharing in an inclusive fashion. Offering audio-cues, written text and vibrations, NaviLens is designed to assist users, notably those who are visually impaired, to independently navigate the world around them.
As part of the University for All initiative, NaviLens will primarily focus on community support and campus accessibility with the objective of assisting users to familiarise themselves with the built environment and key services. We hope that NaviLens will offer a new and innovative platform to further the University’s commitment to Universal Design. Through NaviLens tags, members of our community will be offered flexibility to navigate the campus and engage with support services on their own terms, in their own language (NaviLens presents information in the language of the user’s phone), and with a variety of communication options presented.
We hope that you will be able to join us for coffee and cake to celebrate our accessibility achievements for 2023/2024, and to look forward to the new exciting opportunities that NaviLens offers for supporting diversity and inclusion in UCD.
