Pursue your passions with UCD Lifelong Learning
For those seeking personal development or an introduction to a new subject, Lifelong Learning offers the opportunity to take courses that are participative, engaging, and facilitated by experts in their field, simply for interest. Whether you want to study Languages, Art Appreciation, Irish Studies, History, Literature, Philosophy or Writing, this programme allows you to engage with university-level education without examinations in a variety of locations around the city and on the Belfield campus.
As a UCD graduate, you also benefit from an exclusive 10% alumni discount, making it even easier to invest in your next stage of life. UCD's commitment to being an Age-Friendly University ensures that learners of all stages of life can engage with cutting-edge knowledge in an inclusive and dynamic environment, regardless of previous educational experience. Bookings for 2025-26 will open in early July.
Flexible approach to education with UCD Open Learning
For those looking to enhance their skills, Open Learning provides access to over 400 UCD undergraduate modules. Join undergraduate modules to upskill or learn something new and enjoy all the benefits of being a UCD student, without the full-time commitment.
You can choose to audit modules (attend lectures without assessments) or opt for credit-bearing routes (completing assessments to earn academic credits). Accumulated credits can contribute towards a Certificate in Open Learning (30 credits) or a Diploma in Open Learning (60 credits), and may also serve as a pathway to full-time undergraduate degrees at UCD.
This flexible approach allows you to engage with university-level education at your own pace, making it particularly valuable for alumni considering a career change or further academic pursuits. It provides an accessible way to explore new fields before committing to a full qualification.
Why do UCD Alumni choose Lifelong and Open Learning?
At UCD, we know that no two students are the same. As one of Europe's leading universities, UCD provides an educational experience that extends beyond traditional degrees. UCD Alumni who return for Lifelong or Open Learning benefit from world-class teaching, a supportive academic environment, and the flexibility to shape their learning journey. The 10% alumni discount on Lifelong Learning courses makes it more affordable to upskill, while Open Learning offers a pathway to further study or personal enrichment.
