Professor Mark Scott appointed to Board of the Heritage Council
Friday, 26 May, 2023
UCD is pleased to announce that Professor Mark Scott has been appointed to the Board of the Heritage Council by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien TD.
Mark Scott is Professor of Planning and Dean of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Planning & Environmental Policy in University College Dublin. He has over twenty-five years of experience as a researcher, focusing on the environmental and sustainability dimensions of spatial planning, land-use governance, climate action and the built environment, and green infrastructure and biodiversity.
Welcoming his appointment, Chair of the Heritage Council Martina Moloney said:
“I am very much looking forward to working with Professor Scott in the months and years ahead to further the needs of the heritage sector. He brings considerable expertise and experience to the table particularly in the areas of planning, the historic urban environment and heritage-led regeneration, and I know his input will be hugely valuable.”
CEO of the Heritage Council, Virginia Teehan said:
“I would like to congratulate Professor Scott on his appointment as a member of the Heritage Council and to thank him for his interest in contributing to our work. His distinguished track record across a range of key heritage areas will be a huge asset to the Heritage Council as we look to deliver the key policies and functions as outlined in our five-year strategy launched this year.”
Professor Scott said:
“It is a great honour to be appointed to the Heritage Council and I am excited about working with the Heritage Council and my fellow Council members. I am confident that my built heritage and conservation experience, as well as my knowledge of rural planning, cultural landscapes and natural heritage will be of assistance in confronting the challenges ahead.”
Professor Scott’s term will run until March 28th, 2028.
