nZEB101
Building on an established monitoring project of low-energy dwellings which has been running for over two years, the vision for nZEB101 is to uncover the key nZEB design and operations lessons as Ireland embarks on the unprecedented mass market implementation of these low-energy buildings. The project builds on an established and effective multidisciplinary collaboration of academia and experienced low-energy dwelling professionals with a history of implementing low-energy/nZEB. Encompassing both Topic 6 and Topic 11, nZEB101 monitors over 101 geographically dispersed domestic and non-domestic, new and retrofit properties and ensures a statistically robust sample size which will yield; Operational performance of A rated buildings, including energy and Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ); “In use factors” for a span of energy-efficiency technologies – fabric, PV and solar; Both of the above will inform the development of compliance methodologies.; The data gathered will be key to ensuring design and operations lessons learned are captured to inform future design, not just for the project participants, but for industry at large. A communications strategy is designed for widespread multimedia dissemination (including via national TV) to a comprehensive range of target stakeholders.; The project will place particular emphasis on social housing considering it is proposed that up to 45% of the dwellings constructed in Ireland over the next 10 years will be for social housing purposes, with first reports of IEQ and annual operational performance against the BER predictions scheduled in Q1.; nZEB101, due to its ambitions and multi-stranded approach ensures significant value for money for the investment made.
