About

Archaeology is the investigation of societies from their material remains, from the distant past to the modern world. It is an exciting discipline that enables us to trace the astonishing diversity of human culture, across the world and through time.

About the School

UCD School of Archaeology is Ireland’s leading centre for archaeological education and research. Our research and teaching programmes explore not only the archaeology and environments of Britain and Ireland, but also continental Europe, the Mediterranean, North America, and East and Southeast Asia. We are a friendly, supportive and approachable School, with a thriving undergraduate and postgraduate research community. Archaeology combines the intellectual, analytical and interpretative skills of the humanities (e.g. History, Geography, Art), with the qualitative methods and techniques of Social Sciences and Sociology – we work with people. Archaeologists in UCD also utilize advances in Information and Computer Technology (ICT), sciences (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Physics) and the study of the human body (e.g. DNA, Osteology, Forensics, Anthropology).
