"UCD School of Archaeology staff have collaborated with UCD and Maynooth colleagues in the creation of a children's comic
"Back to the Future with Beo and Raja: A tale from the Early Bioeconomy: A time travel adventure set in UCD Centre for Experimental Archaeology and Material Culture"The comic was launched on Thursday 7th March 2024, by Peter Burke, TD, Minister of State with responsibility for EU Affairs & Defence.
The comic can be downloaded for (opens in a new window)free at UCD Library Research Repository:
The comic is a collaboration between BioBeo Horizon Europe project at the School of Biosystems and Food Engineering, led by Prof Tom Curran; UCD School of Archaeology's CEAMC, Dr Brendan O'Neill's Cultural Landscapes and Social Spaces (CLaSS) project, and the Froebel Dept of Primary and Early Childhood Education at Maynooth University.
The comic explores how people in early medieval Ireland lived with their environment, with an especial emphasis on hazel woodland management and house building, amongst other things (flax for linen), and the range of animals, birds and insects you might have seen. It also has little people playing hurling in it! The comic is intended as a resource for school children to explain the bioeconomy.
