UCD Archaeology Students at IAI 2025 Conference
Research by UCD Archaeology students was well represented at the annual conference of
the Institute of Archaeologists of Ireland in Galway, 4-5 April 2025. The conference theme
was “Fragmented Past: Letting the Light In”, and it was attended by more than 100
archaeologists from around Ireland. A total of five students from UCD School of Archaeology
presented their research at the conference, and staff research was also represented in other
papers and posters.
At the conference, PhD students Meaghan Mackie, Samuel Kinirons and Deborah Buchanan
presented oral papers, and posters were presented by PhD student Julie Perez and MLitt
student Keelin Murphy.
Meaghan Mackie’s paper was entitled “Illuminating Irish Neolithic diet by preliminary dental calculus chemical analysis”.
Samuel Kinirons’s paper was entitled “Diet, dates and death: stable isotopes analyses and new radiocarbon dates for the Viking Age burials of Dublin”.
Deborah Buchanan’s paper was entitled “Moynagh Points: not just a pretty Mesolithic face”.
Julie Perez’s poster was entitled "Early medieval Irish ring pins: a pilot study for experimental archaeology”.
Keelin Murphy’s poster was entitled “What’s cooking in St Kevin’s kitchen? Investigating foodways at the ecclesiastical site of Glendalough, Ireland, AD 600–1500”.
