Biographical History

Born in County Down, Fitzpatrick was a schoolteacher, novelist and historian whose best-known published work concerned the Confederate War in the Waterford area.

Archival History

This collection is beleived to have been given to Robert Dudley Edwards, Professor of Moden Irish History in UCD, by a niece or nephew of Fitzpatrick in 1953. The collection was initially placed in the UCD Library but was later transferred to the newly established UCD Archives by 1976.

 

Scope and Content

Unpublished biography of Henry Jones, Bishop of Meath. Unpublished work on Sir Phelim O'Neill and Island Magee in 1641. Copies of published and unpublished articles on seventeenth-century Irish history with specific reference to Henry Jones, Sir Phelim O'Neill and the Rebellion of 1641. Research notes and transcripts from primary and secondary sources including state papers, depositions and contemporary accounts.

It will be made available for consultation in the UCD Special Collections reading room on Level One of the James Joyce Library.
