Biographical History

The collection contains correspondence of three generations of the Greene family whose main residences throughout the period were Ballylarkin, Callan, County Kilkenny and ‘The Burgery’, Abbeyside, Dungarven, County Waterford. By 1895 the Ballylarkin property may have passed into other hands, possibly another branch of the family.

Archival History

This collection had already been sorted when deposited in UCD Archives in 1971. The original chronological arrangement has been maintained but with some modifications where adviseable.

Scope and Content

Correspondence (1761–1946) concerning family affairs and contemporary political, economic, social and agricultural matters including the potato failure (1844–8).

Emigrants’ letters from the United States and Canada (1874–1938).

Nine letters from John Dillon M.P. to John Greene J.P. (1894–1924).
