Benefits to the Organisation
Becoming an internship partner for the BA Humanities programme represents a unique opportunity to organisations. Following the success of internship programmes across other disciplines in UCD, we know that the host organisations reap many benefits:
- Recruitment and Engagement: Internships provide an opportunity to obtain a very effective, low-risk recruitment pipeline for future talent and to develop enhanced links with Ireland’s number one ranked University for graduate employability in 2018 & 2019 & 2020.
- Innovation: Students are highly motivated and eager to learn. Internships provide organisations with access to high calibre interns who can bring new perspectives and new ideas.
- Productivity: Interns can provide an opportunity to organisational directors and managers to increase productivity and target completion of specific projects. Hosts may also use internships as an opportunity to temporarily experiment with new roles without having to make any long term commitments.
- Cost Effective: Interns are a source of temporary skilled staff, and a mechanism to meet short term recruitment and project needs.
- Economic: Interns can allow for the release of existing employees to more demanding projects, by providing time away from more routine day-to-day tasks that can be covered by the intern.
- Promotion: Promote your organisation and brand amongst the UCD student community via returning students who can contribute to your image as brand ambassadors.
- Combining Academic with Work/Business: Experience how closer relationships can be developed between the academic and work/business spheres.
- Staff Development: Many organisations use internship programmes as a mechanism to develop junior employees for management positions. Interns provide a great opportunity for employees to gain experience in mentoring and management skills.
An internship is a three-way partnership with the student who benefits from the learning experience, the host partner, and the University. All UCD internships are underpinned by an internship agreement, which is signed by the University and the host.
The student for their part is required to sign off on a student internship acceptance form which includes a commitment to maintaining confidentiality with regard to host activities and an agreement that IP created belongs to the host. The purpose of the internship agreement and the student form is to highlight and recognise the roles and responsibilities of all three parties.
The Internship Manager will be in touch with your organisation to arrange setting up an internship agreement with UCD and to agree the internship specifications. The internship manager can provide support to you throughout each step of the process.
