Dr Edward Burke is a finalist in the 2025 UCD Research Impact Case Study Competition
Sincere congratulations to Dr Edward Burke, UCD School of History, finalist in the 2025 UCD Research Impact Case Study Competition. This is a huge achievement.
Using archival evidence, Edward's work examines the impact of loyalist bombings in the Irish state in the early 1970s. His research helped identify suspects whom the British Army and the Royal Ulster Constabulary did not share with An Garda Siochána at the time. In response to a Dáil question which directly cited Dr Burke’s (opens in a new window)journal article, the Taoiseach made a commitment to request explanation and assistance from the UK government. Dr Burke has since assisted Gardaí investigating loyalist bombings.
