(opens in a new window)Regina Uí Chollatáin, Chair of Modern Irish and Literature in University College Dublin is the new College Principal and Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities.
Is í Regina Uí Chollatáin, an tOllamh Sinsearach le Nua-Ghaeilge sa Choláiste Ollscoile, Baile Átha Cliath, an Príomhoifigeach/ Déan nua ar Choláiste na nEalaíon agus na nDaonnachtaí.
Commenting on her appointment, Professor Mark Rogers, UCD Acting President said “I look forward to working with Regina to ensure Arts and Humanities continues to thrive and contribute to the wider success of the University. As the world faces many systemic global challenges, the critical role of humanities to explore and challenge pressing global issues from a past, present, future and multi- linguistic and multicultural perspective are all the more evident. I know you will work collaboratively with Professor Uí Chollatáin in placing the College at the forefront of this agenda and in ensuring that UCD is recognised internationally as a place for critical and creative contributions to Arts and Humanities"
Dúirt Regina “Tá pobal ilghnéitheach na hÉireann díreach ar thairseach chomóradh céad bliain de bhunú an Stáit mar thír a bhfuil áit greanta aici i stair agus i gcultúr na hEorpa agus an domhain le breis agus céad bliain anuas. Is scáthántacht í UCD Coláiste na nEalaíon agus na nDaonnachtaí ar éabhlóid na sochaí Éireannaí, i gcomhthéacs na n-ealaíon agus an chultúir. Shnoigh cuid mhaith dá chéimithe rólanna ceannaireachta a réitigh áit d’Éirinn ar ardán na hEorpa agus an domhain. Téann an anailís chriticiúil agus an fhiosracht intleachtúil go croí dhisciplíní agus chláir an Choláiste. Múnlóidh sé seo céimithe an Choláiste le rólanna ceannaireachta agus gníomhacha a ghlacadh le beathaí a athrú trí thuiscintí litríochta, staire, teangeolaíochta agus cultúrtha. Tá lúcháir orm a bheith ag obair chun tosaigh sna hathruithe seo agus ré nua á stiúradh againn sna hEalaíona agus
sna Daonnachtaí”.
Regina said “Ireland is on the threshold of the centenary of the commemoration of the foundation of the Irish State, in a country which has carved its place in the history and culture of Europe and the world for well over one hundred years. The UCD College of Arts and Humanities mirrors the evolution of Irish society and global arts and culture, and its graduates embody the leadership which has allowed Ireland to take its place on the national and international stage. The critical analysis which lies at the heart of the College disciplines and programmes, has enabled, and will continue to shape our graduates to lead, enrich and change many lives through literary, historical, linguistic and cultural understandings. I look forward to working at the cutting edge of these as we lead a new era in Arts and Humanities”.
