Global Futures of Irish Studies

Posted 26 May 2021

'The Global Futures of Irish Studies' (GIDC event developed by our committee Vice President Dr Darragh Gannon), is a series of online roundtables designed to provide a platform for discussion of the global challenges, yet unique national/local contexts, facing diverse Irish Studies communities. Each roundtable will be convened in association with an Irish Studies network from a different geographical region, with the view to creating, and sustaining, a truly global conversation between Irish Studies scholars around the world.

For our inaugural event, we will host members of the European Federation of Associations and Centres of Irish Studies (EFACIS) in a wide-ranging roundtable discussion:

  • Prof. Katharina Rennhak (Universität Wuppertal)
  • Prof. Marguérite Corporaal (Radboud Universiteit, Nijmegen)
  • Dr. Seán Crosson (NUI Galway)
  • Dr. Radvan Markus (Charles University, Prague)
  • Prof. Sylvie Mikowski (Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne)
The event will be hosted and led by Dr Darragh Gannon and Dr Aoife Whelan (GIDC standing committee members).
The roundtable discussion with our EFACIS colleagues will be followed by an open Q and A session, in which members of the wider international Irish Studies community will be able to ask questions, exchange ideas, and propose new areas for potential collaboration.
We would be delighted if you would join the global Irish Studies conversation on 26 May. The event will begin at 18.00 (Irish Standard Time). The Zoom link can be accessed, without prior registration, through the GIDC website below:
We look forward to your valuable contribution to 'The Global Futures of Irish Studies'.
