Students as Champions of Academic Integrity

Poster urging people to 'Own your own work'

Overview

This project helps students to champion the core values of academic integrity among their peers. These values comprise honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility and courage, values to be cultivated in association with an ethos of compassion and concern.

The project allows students to become partners in promoting academic integrity as an integral part of learning and in the production of module assignments. It provides not only students but also teaching staff with a student viewpoint on academic integrity.

Our Research Areas

Our project practises an inclusive and partnership-based approach to teaching and learning in the Arts and Humanities by working together with students to capture and evaluate their views and experiences of academic integrity.

Student feedback, both in response to questionnaires and from ongoing focus groups, is key to measuring the effectiveness of staff communication and institutional guidelines around academic integrity.

Collaborating with student champions for academic integrity, the project complements institutional policy and protocols with a peer-to-peer based awareness-raising and guidance campaign. It places value on building and embedding a shared culture and understanding of academic integrity in the UCD Teaching and Learning community.
