Environmental plant biology research assistant opportunity (short term)
Plant-mycorrhizal function for a sustainable environment
Funded short-term research assistant position available at School of Biology and Environmental Science (SBES), University College Dublin (UCD).
Research area: Investigating diverse lineages of mycorrhizal fungi and assessing their function in plants and the environment.
Recently it has been shown that several arbuscular mycorrhizal plants also form endosymbioses with Mucoromycotina fine root endophytes (MFRE). MFRE are widespread yet poorly understood and their partnerships with plants have remained ‘under-the-radar’ due to technical limitations in their detection and culture. Recently essential techniques were developed to allow us to overcome these limitations and have shown that MFRE form symbioses with diverse plants across a range of ecosystems. Using these novel, tractable systems, this research assistant position will explore, diverse lineages of fungi and assess their interactions with other biota across a range of ecosystems.
Applications and Qualifications:
BSc (2.1 or above), or an MSc degree within the plant, environmental or microbial sciences, or related discipline.
Desirable experience: Plant-growth systems, microbial culture, DNA extraction and data analysis.
