CCRT Trial Process Mapping and Away Day

Optimising clinical trials is paramount for delivering effective treatments to our patients. The UCD Cancer Trials Cluster recently embarked on a process mapping journey with our team at the Cancer Clinical Research Trust ((opens in a new window)CCRT), who manage oncology clinical trials for St Vincent’s University Hospital.

Clinical trials are meticulously planned to ensure the safety and efficacy of new medical treatments. To maintain the highest standards, we constantly evaluate and enhance our processes to improve efficiency.

To achieve this, our team undertook a process mapping exercise. This involved creating a detailed visual representation of our clinical trials process from start to finish, enabling us to pinpoint bottlenecks, redundancies, and areas ripe for optimisation.

Process mapping offered a comprehensive view of our workflow, unveiling areas where delays and inefficiencies occurred and setting the stage for substantive improvements.

In an effort to foster collaboration, the team also ventured into an escape room, where they were tasked with working together to solve a series of puzzles and escape the Mafia in 60 minutes!

An escape room is more than entertainment; it was a valuable tool for enhancing cooperation. As we tackled its challenges, we observed how different team members leveraged their individual strengths and perspectives. This cooperative effort echoed the strengths of the CCRT —bringing together diverse talents to surmount obstacles and attain a shared objective.
