Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Colorectal cancer refers to cancer that starts in the colon or rectum, which are part of the large intestine. It's the third most common type of cancer in both men and women worldwide. Colorectal cancer can develop from growths called polyps that form on the inner lining of the colon or rectum. Over time, some of these polyps can become cancerous. Colorectal cancer is a significant health concern in Ireland. It is the second most common cancer in men and the third most common in women. Approximately 2,500 individuals are diagnosed with bowel cancer annually in Ireland.
Since November 2023, UCD Cancer Cluster offer MOUNTAINEER-03 trial at St. Vincent’s University Hospital and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. These studies aim to explore improved treatments for metastatic colorectal cancer and non-small cell lung cancer, find out more in here.
