The expertise from the CCIR embodies a unique blend of competencies that positions it with the capabilities to pioneer the field of critical infrastructures. First and foremost, the team boasts a diverse set of academic backgrounds, with expertise spanning engineering, applied mathematics, data science, policy analysis, and social sciences. This interdisciplinary approach enables the centre to tackle multifaceted challenges with a holistic perspective, leveraging insights from various disciplines to deliver comprehensive solutions.
CCIR experts are worldwide recognized experts in fields of interest for the assessment of critical infrastructures and the centre is structured to exploit their synergies. The centre is also structured in three themes, that constitute the three dimensions of research topics aimed at delivering the critical infrastructure of the future:

- Smart & Intelligent Infrastructure
- Sustainable Infrastructure
and that together aim to enhance the functionality and performance of Critical Infrastructure Systems.
