Maurice van Steensel is professor of Dermatology and Skin Biology at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) and a Research Director at the Skin Research Institute of Singapore. A dermatologist with a PhD in molecular genetics, Maurice brings over 2 decades of experience in the full breadth of skin research, (molecular biology to clinical trials) for rare diseases and development of novel personal care interventions.
He earned his PhD cum laude from University of Maastricht (the Netherlands) and co-founded ArrowBiome, a Singapore biotech company that uses proprietary technology to deliver transformative solutions for selective microbiome control. ArrowBiome recently closed its seed round.
Abstract for talk:
I will discuss the utility of sebaceous organoids (“sebonoids”), progenitor cell-derived structures that recapitulate sebaceous gland development and function. I will describe how my group makes them, and how our process compares to other published procedures.
I will also present some data showing how clinical interventions can be validated with sebonoids.
