Talk Title: What’s new about acne?

Speaker Details: What’s new about acne? Skin Research Centre, Hull-York Medical School, Uni of York, and Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust, UK

Short Biography: 

Alison qualified in medicine at the University of Sheffield before specializing in dermatology at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. She took up her appointment as Consultant Dermatologist at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust in 1995. She is a member of the Experimental Medicine & Biomedicine research group and clinical lead for the new Skin Research Centre at the University of York.

Prof. Layton has a particular interest in androgen mediated disorders, incl. acne and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and is recognized for her work on clinical trials, outcomes measures, anti-microbial resistance and the microbiome. She is also researching the immunological and microbiological aspects of acne.

She sits on the Executive Council of PCOS UK, the European Expert Panel for Acne and the Global Alliance Steering Group for Acne. She is one of the reviewers for the prodigy guidelines for rosacea and acne as well as for several National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) NICE guidelines related to dermatological conditions.

Abstract for talk: 

Acne is the commonest inflammatory dermatoses seen globally. The last decade has brought a paradigm shift in the understanding of acne pathophysiology. This talk will highlight key developments that are informing translational approaches for novel management.
