Project Title: Discovery of autoantigens that trigger immune-mediated hair loss in Alopecia areata

Thematic Area: Hair Growth Biology

Focus of Research: Alopecia Areata

Group/team members involved: Shahnawaz Jadeja

Overview: Alopecia areata (AA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by a patchy loss of hair in the scalp and/or body. The unpredictability of its severity and frequency of recurrence often profoundly affects the lives of affected individuals. The etiopathogenesis of AA is complex however, strong evidences suggest the involvement of autoimmunity. This project is aimed to discover autoantigens in the human anagen hair follicle triggering immune-mediated responses in genetically predisposed individuals using humoral as well as cell-mediated approaches.
