Summer Schools at UCD School of Chemistry
UCD School of Chemistry offers two Summer Schools annually with linked universities in the US sending students to the Organic Chemistry Summer School and linked universities in China sending students to the China-Ireland Chemistry Summer School.
The China-Ireland Chemistry Undergraduate and Postgraduate Summer School Class of 2024
As the largest School of Chemistry in Ireland and located in the UCD O'Brien Centre for Science we have large, bright and well equipped teaching laboratories where students receive hands on practical training alongside classroom based learning through lectures, workshops and tutorials.
The School currently offers three BSc (Hons) degree programmes in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry & Chemical Biology and Chemistry with Environmental and Sustainable Chemistry and makes a significant contribution to the BSc(Hons) degree in Chemistry & Mathematics Education; two Taught MSc programmes in Chemistry (by negotiated learning) and Advanced Synthetic Chemistry.
The School's 31 faculty are engaged in active research in the broad field of chemistry and have a strong record of publishing in high impact international journals and raising substantial research funding awards. This group of faculty together supervise approx. 120 graduate research students studying predominantly for PhD degrees and a group of approx. 30 postdoctoral researchers.
Our faculty deliver teaching and learning to undergraduate students in Science and Chemistry programmes alongside modules in chemistry to undergraduate students on Medicine, Engineering and Agriculture programmes. Graduate Research Students studying for their PhD or MSc by Research degrees are employed as laboratory demonstrators and tutors to both undergraduate and summer school students.

The Organic Chemistry Summer School Class of 2024
UCD Chemistry Summer School students are provided with high standard student accommodation on campus, just a 10 minute walk away from the UCD O'Brien Centre for Science on the parkland campus. Each student will have their own secure bedroom (and en-suite bathroom) with apartments having 4, 6 or 8 bedrooms and a shared living/kitchen area. A 24-hour Reception is available and there is 24-hour security throughout campus. Free WiFi is widely available across campus including in student accommodation and there are a number of restaurants and food outlets on campus.
Summer School students are encouraged to explore the campus and make use of all of the James Joyce Library and UCD Gym and Pool. The Summer At UCD Programme also offers social and cultural activities such as lessons in the national game of hurling, traditional Irish dance classes and some outings.
There are good bus links to Dublin City Centre and information on the (opens in a new window)Leap travel card will be provided. As the capital city of Ireland, Dublin is well placed to allow easy travel around the country and to Europe via Dublin Airport which is easily accessed via the (opens in a new window)Aircoach bus service at the main entrance to UCD.
