On February 27th, 2024, the public lecture of Irish Institute for Chinese Studies and the 53rd Confucius PhD Forum was held successfully at the UCD Confucius Institute. Professor Quan Wang from Beihang University delivered a lecture entitled "The Eye/I in Ancient Chinese Thought", exploring with the audience the intricate ways vision and perception have shaped individual subjectivity within ancient Chinese classics. The lecture was held in a hybrid format (both online and offline) and close to one hundred people attended.
During the lecture, Professor Quan Wang dissected how ancient thinkers like Confucius, Hanfeizi and Zhuangzi conceptualize “seeing”. He also compared seeing in western philosophers like Michel Foucault and Jacques Lacan to examine relationships among sight, gaze and subjectivity. At the Q&A session that followed, Professor Quan Wang engaged in interactive discussions with the audience on the theme of "seeing" and "being seen".
After the forum, Professor Liming Wang, Director of the UCD Confucius Institute, presented an honorary certificate and souvenir to Professor Quan Wang. This lecture was well received by the enthusiastic audience.
第53届孔子博士论坛成功举办
2024年2月27日，第53届孔子博士生论坛于都柏林大学孔子学院成功举办。北京航空航天大学外国语学院王泉教授应邀作了题为“中国古代思想中的观看、凝视、和主体”的学术讲座，与观众一起分享了古代中国经典中“看”的角色及其对主体性的启示。本次讲座以线上线下相结合的方式进行，近百名师生出席了本次论坛。
在讲座中，王泉教授深入剖析了孔子、韩非子、庄子等古代思想家关于“看”的独特见解。他通过对比福柯和拉康的西方理论，揭示了不同层次的观看对全面理解他人的重要性。演讲结束后，与会人员就“看”与“被看”这一主题进行了热烈讨论。
之后，都柏林大学孔子学院王黎明院长代表学院向王泉教授颁发了荣誉证书并赠送了纪念品。本次论坛反响热烈，引发了广泛关注。
