The UCD Irish Institute for Chinese Studies (IICS) hosted a delegation from Shanghai Polytechnic University (SSPU) for the signing of a historic Collaborative Postgraduate Programme Agreement on 22 November 2024. This partnership marks a significant first step in fostering academic exchange and collaboration between the two institutions.
The agreement was signed by the presidents of both universities and formally exchanged during a ceremony attended by Professor Colin Scott, UCD Registrar & Deputy President, and Professor Huaqing Xie, President of SSPU. Professor Scott represented President of UCD Professor Orla Feely, attended the ceremony. Also in attendance was Professor Liming Wang, Director of UCD IICS, who played a key role in facilitating the partnership.
The Agreement incorporates the UCD MA in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture into SSPU’s existing Master’s programme in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. Under the initiative, SSPU students will complete their first year in China, then undertake the UCD MA programme in Ireland before returning to SSPU to finish their Master’s degree.
The programme, set to welcome its first intake in the academic year 2026/2027, aims to attract more Chinese students to UCD while strengthening ties between Ireland and China.
Speaking at the event, Professor Colin Scott highlighted the significance of this collaboration:
"This agreement underscores UCD’s commitment to fostering international partnerships that promote cultural exchange and academic excellence. We are delighted to welcome SSPU students to UCD and to deepen our collaboration with Shanghai Polytechnic University."
Professor Huaqing Xie echoed this sentiment, expressing his enthusiasm for the partnership and its potential to provide transformative opportunities for students from both institutions.

都柏林大学与上海第二工业大学签署协议，共促学术合作
2024年11月22日，爱尔兰都柏林大学中国研究院（IICS）接待了来自上海第二工业大学（SSPU）的代表团，并签署了一项具有历史意义的研究生合作项目协议。此次合作标志着两校在学术交流与合作方面迈出了重要的第一步。
协议由两校校长签署，并在仪式上由都柏林大学副校长兼教务长Colin Scott教授与上海第二工业大学校长谢华清教授正式交换。Scott教授代表都柏林大学校长Orla Feely教授出席了仪式。此外，爱尔兰都柏林大学中国研究院院长王黎明教授也出席了活动，他在推动此次合作中发挥了重要作用。
根据协议，都柏林大学中文国际教育硕士专业（MA in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture）将被纳入上海第二工业大学现有的国际中文教育硕士专业设置。参与项目的SSPU学生将在中国完成第一年的学习，随后前往爱尔兰完成都柏林大学的硕士课程，最后返回SSPU完成其国际中文教育硕士学位。
该项目计划于2026/2027学年迎来首批学生，旨在吸引更多中国学生就读都柏林大学，同时进一步加强爱尔兰与中国之间的联系。
在仪式上，Colin Scott教授强调了此次合作的重要意义：
