Success for students on the Chang’an Dublin International College Civil Engineering Infrastructure Programme
09/11/21
The Chang’an-Dublin International College (CDIC) of Transportation is a joint international college established in collaboration between UCD and Chang’an University. The Bachelor of Engineering programme in Civil Engineering Infrastructure at CDIC is delivered by faculty at the UCD School of Civil Engineering and at Chang’an University. Students on this programme have won the International Project Gold Award in the 7th China International College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in 2021!
The winning CDIC project “Smearing asphalt technology- the leader of intelligent cooling coating for asphalt pavement” represents a breakthrough in the development of intelligent asphalt pavement coatings. The coating effectively reduces the temperature of the surface of the asphalt pavement in the Summer, saves pavement maintenance costs, extends the service life of the pavement and alleviates urban heat island effects.
The core research direction of the project is to introduce phase change material (PCM) technology and microcapsule technology into pavement cooling materials, actively addressing the thermodynamic problem of high temperature road surfacing. The project team has applied this advanced technology to good effect.
This is the first time that students from Chang’an University, and the Chang’an-Dublin International College have won a gold award in the Internet + innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition International Circuit. The winning team members are CUI Zihan, WANG Xibo, LIU Caihong (who commenced their studies in CDIC in 2019), and ZHOU Haoyu (who commenced his studies in CDIC in 2018). The project was guided by Wei Kun, the Deputy Director of the Road Engineering Department of the Highway College of Chang’an University. Professor Hainian Wang served as technical consultant for the project.
The annual China International College Students’ “Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition has attracted 15.78 million college students in 3.77 million teams, from 124 countries and regions, across five continents. The Competition has not only become an important vehicle and platform for the reform of education on innovation and entrepreneurship, but also a global event for college students worldwide to pursue dreams in innovation and entrepreneurship.
We congratulate CUI Zihan, WANG Xibo, LIU Caihong ,and ZHOU Haoyu on their great success, and we also congratulate the Deputy Director of the Road Engineering Department of the Highway College of Chang’an University, Wei Kun, for his guidance to the team.
