Medal awarded to UCD postgrad in ITRN 2011 held in Cork
Monday, 5 September, 2016
Alessandro Lipari has won a medal for the best paper in the “Transportation Modelling” session at the Irish Transport Research Network (ITRN) 2011 held in Cork. The winning paper “Estimation of density and gaps during congestions” deals with accuracy issues when using common traffic sensors during congestions. This is part of his research on “Micro-simulation of traffic loading on long-span bridges”, being supervisors Prof Eugene O’Brien (UCD) and Dr Colin Caprani (DIT). In fact, the design of long-span bridges is governed by congested traffic and therefore accurate congested traffic data is needed for assessing the simulation results. He is one of the fellow students within the TEAM project (Training in European Asset Management), coordinated by UCD and funded by the European Community 7th Framework (http://www.ucd.ie/team/).
