Details: This workshop offers a beginner's primer on Bayesian analysis. We will explore Bayes' Rule and how researchers use it in regression, measurement, and many applications. We will also consider the advantages and drawbacks of some Bayesian methods, and spend some time learning how to implement them using STAN and R.
About the speaker: (opens in a new window)Joshua Alley is an Assistant Professor in the School of Politics and International Relations at University College Dublin. His research focuses on international relations, with an emphasis on alliance politics and the political economy of security. In his work, he explores the financial consequences of military alliances, alliance politics in democracies, and mass attitudes towards political violence. Several other working papers examine the political economy of intra-state conflict. His work is published or forthcoming in International Studies Quarterly, The Journal of Conflict Resolution, Research & Politics, Security Studies, International Interactions, and two edited volumes. He has also written an opinion piece for The National Interest.
