PhD and Post-Doctoral Researcher Workshop
Date - 13 July 2021 Time - 1.00 - 2.00 pm
The UCD Centre for Constitutional Studies PhD and Post-doctoral Researcher Workshop will take place via Zoom on Tuesday 13 July, from 1-2 pm. A Zoom link will be circulated in advance.
The workshop will be introduced by Professor Eoin Carolan, the Director of the Centre, and will feature short presentations from two of our PhD students:
Jamie McLoughlin's talk is entitled ‘What’s the meaning of “life”?’ and will examine underexplored dimensions of the concept of 'life' in the right to life under the Irish Constitution. Jamie will briefly examine beginning and end of 'life' issues, before focusing mainly on judicial (non) engagement with the question of the material conditions necessary for 'life'.
Raphael Ng'etich's talk is entitled 'Conceptualisations of Land, the Constitution, and Land Governance in Kenya'. Raphael will discuss different conceptualisations of land in various branches of law, particularly, international investment law and international human rights law, the role of the Constitution in dealing with the varied conceptualisations, and the arising implications on land governance issues, for example, land acquisition, consent, and compensation.
There will be an opportunity for questions, feedback for the speakers and a general chat about methods and methodologies that will be of interest for everyone.
If you have any questions about the workshop, or if you would like to present at a future workshop, please email Seána Glennon, Chief Outreach Officer at the Centre for Constitutional Studies, at (opens in a new window)seana.glennon@ucdconnect.ie.
