This year's IBIS conference took place as part of the north-south research project Mapping Frontiers, Plotting Pathways: routes to North-South co-operation in a divided island. The conference took place on Friday 27 May in the Industry Centre on UCD's Belfield campus. An Taoiseach, Mr Bertie Ahern, TD opened the conference with a keynote address on "The Future of North-South co-operation" (available on the Department of the Taoiseach's website under Press: see (opens in a new window)www.taoiseach.gov.ie)
An audience of some 150 academics, civil servants from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, NGO and civil society representatives, embassies and others enjoyed presentations from those involved at the coalface of North-South cooperation on the island. These included the joint secretaries of the North/Ministerial Council secretariat, based in Armagh, senior representatives of all of the North-South implementation bodies and Lord Laird of Artigarvan, former Chair of the Ulster-Scots Agency.
