About

The UCD Centre for Physics in Health and Medicine is a multi-disciplinary environment which brings together researchers from across the University and healthcare institutions to lead the translation of fundamental physics into health and clinical applications.

About Us

The Centre for Physics in Health and Medicine (CPHM) was established in July 2017 as a strategic initiative led by the UCD School of Physics. It aims to create a multi-disciplinary environment of researchers to lead the translation of fundamental physics understanding and emerging state-of-the-art technologies into health and clinical applications:

- to see disease earlier;
- to treat disease more effectively;
- to enable the development of adaptive, personalised medicine;
- to drive discovery that makes diagnostics and treatment of disease affordable;
- to build inter-disciplinary excellence from a strong physics base;
- to train the next generation of researchers driving Physics in Health and Medicine.

The Centre aims to deliver all of the above by expanding its current clinical and fundamental research activities, building on current network and collaboration strengths.

By providing this overarching theme, the Centre strives to foster stronger links with hospitals and industry, and facilitate better collaboration within UCD by enrolling researchers from other schools.

The Physics in Health and Medicine initiative is in alignment with UCD’s strategy 2015–2020, the College of Science strategy and can contribute to 4 of the 14 priority areas identified in the Government’s Revised Research Priority Areas 2018–2023.

You can keep up to date with the CPHM under News & Events. You can Contact Us to let us know if you would like to be informed of upcoming events, or if you are interested in joining the Centre.
