Advance HE’s (opens in a new window)Athena Swan Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research. The charter has since expanded to recognise work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), and in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students. The framework also now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, including consideration of the experience of trans staff and students, as well as the underrepresentation of men in particular disciplines.

On Tuesday, 8th November 2022, the UCD School of Computer Science was awarded the Bronze Athena SWAN award at a ceremony in Atlantic Technological University in Castlebar, Co.Mayo.
This award was the result of a lot of hard work and time given by all members of the Self Assessment Committee, and is an important recognition of the work being done within the School of Computer Science to expand gender equality initiatives and to ensure our staff and students have a good experience regardless of their gender.
In the coming year, we will be working on the renewal of our Athena Swan Bronze award. An open call will be sent out looking for staff interested in participation in the Self Assessment Team (SAT) or the working groups which will be involved, and we encourage as many of you to partake as can.
More information about the SAT will be updated here when we have it.
