A new Book co-authored by UCD CS Assoc. Prof. Madhusanka Liyanage Explores the Foundations and Applications of Mobile Edge Computing

Associate Professor Madhusanka Liyanage, Director of the Network Softwarization and Security Labs (NetsLab) at UCD has co-authored a new book "Mobile Edge Computing and Communications: Driving Forces, Technology Foundation, and Application Areas”. This publication, released by Wiley, offers an in-depth exploration of Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) and its transformative impact on next-generation communication networks.

MEC, a key enabler of 5G/6G networks, is reshaping data processing by decentralizing computation to the network’s edge. This reduces latency, enhances security, and supports innovative applications across sectors such as IoT, smart cities, healthcare, and autonomous systems. The book bridges theoretical foundations with practical applications, making it an essential resource for researchers, students, and industry professionals.

Dr. Liyanage, who has extensive expertise in network security and 6G innovation, commented on the significance of MEC in modern computing. "This book provides a comprehensive look at the technological drivers and application areas of MEC, reflecting our commitment to advancing cutting-edge research in communication networks and edge computing."

This is Dr. Liyanage’s fourth authored book, showcasing the impactful research and innovation led by NetsLab, a prominent research group within the UCD School of Computer Science specializing in 6G networks, AI, and cybersecurity. The publication underscores UCD’s position as a global leader in computer science research and innovation, fostering significant contributions to the rapidly evolving landscape of technology.
