First BDIC Conference on Computer Science and Electrical/Electronics Engineering
The first BDIC Conference on Computer Science and Electrical/Electronics Engineering was held on Wednesday November 13th, 2024 at the Beijing University of Technology (BJUT), Beijing, China. The conference served as a platform to bring together researchers, academics, and industry professionals to discuss the latest advancements in Computer Science and Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
BDIC is the Beijing Dublin International College, a constituent school of UCD and the Beijing University of Technology which jointly runs BSc in Software Engineering and BE in Internet of Things programmes.
The conference aimed to foster collaboration between students, researchers, and faculty from both BJUT and UCD. It provided a unique opportunity for participants to showcase their innovative research through poster presentations, exchange knowledge, and explore potential collaborative projects.
PhD, Masters, and undergraduate students displayed posters showcasing their groundbreaking work across four tracks:
- Computer Science: Theory and Applications
- Electrical Engineering: Circuits, Systems, and Devices
- Electronics Engineering: Emerging Technologies
- Interdisciplinary Research and Applications
It was a great way for UCD PhD students in China and BJUT PhD students to learn about each other’s work and potentially open up research collaboration avenues. The information session on the China Scholarship Council scholarship encouraged Chinese students to apply for a PhD at UCD.
The Best Poster Awards at the 2024 BDIC Conference on Computer Science and Electrical/Electronics Engineering were presented as follows:
Best Poster Award (Impact) went to Wenbin Gao, Guoyu Zuo, and Shuangyue Yu for the poster "A Bio-Inspired Hierarchical Torque Controller for Versatile Knee Exoskeleton with Task Classification", showcasing their research on a novel exoskeleton control system with strong potential for real-world applications in healthcare.
Best Poster Award (Presentation) went to Han Ji for the poster "Resource Management in Hybrid LiFi and WiFi Networks for 6G", for presenting his work with clarity, visual appeal, and effective audience engagement on resource optimisation in next-generation wireless networks.
Best Poster Award (Novelty) went to Abdul Wadud for the poster titled "XApp-Level Conflict Mitigation in O-RAN" for his novel approach to mitigating conflicts in Open RAN.
The conference took a moment to remember our esteemed colleague Brett Becker who passed away recently. Brett was an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at UCD and since 2015 had lectured on the BSc in Software Engineering and BE in Internet of Things programmes at BDIC.
(opens in a new window)Dr. Nima Afraz served as the Conference Chair for BDIC 2024 and delivered a keynote, which was followed by a welcome address from the Principal of BDIC, Professor Wenying Wu. The technical and awards committee included (opens in a new window)Dr. Anca Jurcut, (opens in a new window)Dr. Arjun Pakrashi, (opens in a new window)Dr. Anshu Mukherjee, and (opens in a new window)Dr. Pasika Ranaweera.
