The UCD Research Culture team has awarded project funding through UCD Research Culture Local Actions, Initiatives and Measures (ReCLAIM) scheme to Dr Shen Wang (PI) and Dr Adrian Byrne (co-PI) to undertake their research project entitled “Responsible use of GenAI for daily research activities” from July 2024 to June 2025. Through this research project, they aim to improve the research culture and integrity at UCD with respect to using generative AI (GenAI) tools and technologies responsibly for research endeavours.

The main activities of the project are as follows:

(1) organise three workshops in UCD;

(a) Computer Science (27/09/2024) - intended audience are researchers at different levels, i.e. PhD students, Postdocs, faculty staff, admins, etc.)

(b) (opens in a new window)CeADAR (13/11/2024) - intended audience are data scientists, software engineers, operations staff and industry partners

(c) All UCD researchers (TBC) - intended audience are researchers at different levels i.e., PhD students, Postdocs, faculty staff, admins, etc.) across various domains/schools at UCD

(2) using the findings from the three workshops, Dr Wang and Dr Byrne will publish a whitepaper providing guidelines on the responsible use of GenAI for daily research activities based on UCD researchers’ practice.

(3) the findings from the three workshops will also be used to create a short online course promoting the proposed guidelines on the responsible use of GenAI for daily research activities. The aim of this course is to act as an important complement to the existing Research Integrity training materials offered by UCD.
