UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1, UCD School of Computer Science, Temporary, part time 0.6FTE

Applications are invited for a  Temporary,  until 31 August 2024, part time 0.6FTE post of a  UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within  UCD School of Computer Science.
This EU Horizon 2020 project, SPATIAL, will tackle the identified gaps of data issues and black-box AI by designing and developing resilient accountable metrics, privacy-preserving methods, verification tools and system solutions that will serve as critical building blocks for trustworthy AI in ICT systems and cybersecurity. Besides technical measures, the project aims to facilitate generating appropriate skills and education for AI to strike a balance among technological complexity, societal difficulty and value conflicts in AI deployment. The project covers data privacy, resilience engineering, and legal-ethical accountability in the context of three pillars towards trustworthy AI. In addition, the work carried out in SPATIAL on both social and technical aspects will serve as a stepping stone to establish an appropriate governance and regulatory framework in Europe.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:
1. Design principles for accountable and resilient AI architectures in existing IoT systems
2. Proposing a process to integrate accountability and resilience features into existing AI algorithms
3. Build automated diagnosis and mechanisms for tuning AI-based systems and Trusted Execution Environments for accountable and resilient AI
4. Organising and managing deliverables within UCD team and among other partners in SPATIAL consortium to ensure high-quality on-time submissions.
Salary Range:  €38,632 - €44,658 per annum pro-rata  (€ 23,179 - €26,795 per annum at temporary part-time 0.6fte)
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.
