Steffi's research is based in conflict studies, with a focus on psychological micro-foundations of political dissent. She conducts ethnographic interviews with political dissidents and applies computational methods to identify the reasoning processes expressed in the interviews. This approach adds novel insight into the deliberations underlying political behaviour, which routinely deviate from rational choice principles or assumptions from large-n studies.
