About Us

About us:

The UCD Dublin European Institute, has been a leading source for outstanding research related to Europe since it was established in 1999 by Professor Brigid Laffan.
Located in the School of Politics and International Relations, it draws its membership from more than 18 Schools across UCD spanning humanities, social sciences (AHSS) and science, technology, engineering and medicine (STEM) disciplines.

It aims to co-ordinate, collaborate and communicate with staff across the university to identify and develop synergies among UCD scholars from different disciplines; to communicate and disseminate UCD research relating to Europe to stakeholders in Ireland and internationally; and to create new opportunities for funded, impactful and cutting-edge interdisciplinary research.

These objectives are achieved through a range of activities including:
1) a seminar series with the aim of developing new synergies for researchers in UCD and
especially between those in AHSS and STEM.
2) Leveraging the DEI UCD network to build European and international networks and profile in
conjunction with (opens in a new window)Una Europa with the aim of increasing research funding capacity and success for
UCD researchers.
3) And engaging with stakeholders so UCD researchers bring their work into the policy domain.
